TowLedger RV Load Check

Practical guide

Calculate tow-vehicle loaded weight and payload

TowLedger starts with measured loading inputs. Keep the ready vehicle scale weight, trip occupants and cargo, and trailer tongue weight distinct so the payload calculation can be audited.

Add the load carried by the vehicle

The engine adds the entered scale weight, occupants and cargo, and tongue weight. The default inputs are 5,200 lb, 700 lb, and 700 lb, producing a 6,600 lb loaded tow vehicle.

tow vehicle loaded = scale weight + occupants/cargo + tongue weight

6,600 lb against the default 7,000 lb GVWR leaves 400 lb of entered payload room.

Inspect axle readings separately

Front and rear axle readings are compared with their own ratings. The default front reading leaves 900 lb and the default rear reading leaves 1,000 lb against the entered axle ratings.

axle remaining = axle rating - loaded axle scale weight

Use measured values when possible

Weight distribution equipment and cargo placement can change the axle split. Replace the illustrative values with loaded scale readings for the specific vehicle, hitch, trailer, and trip configuration.

Check your own scenario

Replace the illustrative inputs with measured values and dated specifications.
